Ingredients for making chocolate cake without an oven
  • 2 packets of bourbon biscuits (or any cream-filled chocolate biscuits)
  • 250 ml milk
  • 1 tablespoon ghee (clarified butter) or butter for greasing
  • 1 tablespoon Eno (fruit salt)
  • Butter paper

Equipment

  • Mixer or blender
  • Mixing bowl
  • Round cake tin or bowl
  • Non-stick handi (deep pan)
  • Salt
  • Ring (metal stand for the cake tin)

Steps to Prepare the Cake

1. Prepare the Biscuits

  • Break the Biscuits: Remove the biscuits from the packets and break them into small pieces.
  • Grind the Biscuits: Put the broken pieces into a mixer or blender and grind them into a fine powder, similar to semolina (suji).
  • Transfer to a Bowl: Pour the ground biscuits into a mixing bowl.

2. Mix the Batter

  • Add Milk: Gradually add milk to the biscuit powder while mixing to form a thick, smooth batter.
  • Consistency Check: Ensure the batter is not too thin or too thick. It should be similar to regular cake batter.

3. Prepare the Cake Tin

  • Grease the Tin: Grease the inside of the cake tin or bowl with ghee or butter.
  • Line with Butter Paper: Place butter paper at the bottom and sides of the tin to prevent sticking.

4. Prepare the Handi

  • Add Salt: Pour salt into the bottom of the handi to create an even layer.
  • Place the Ring: Position the ring on top of the salt layer. Ensure it doesn’t touch the salt directly to avoid burning.

5. Preheat the Handi

  • Preheat: Cover the handi with its lid and preheat it on medium flame for about 5 minutes.

6. Combine and Cook the Cake

  • Add Eno: Just before transferring the batter to the cake tin, add 1 tablespoon of Eno and mix well.
  • Pour into Tin: Pour the batter into the prepared cake tin.
  • Place in Handi: Put the cake tin on the ring inside the preheated handi.
  • Cook: Cover the handi with the lid and cook on low to medium flame for 20-25 minutes.

Final Touches

7. Check for Doneness

  • Check the Cake: After 20-25 minutes, insert a toothpick into the cake. If it comes out clean, the cake is ready.

8. Cool and Remove

  • Cool the Cake: Remove the cake tin from the handi and let it cool for a few minutes.
  • Transfer to a Plate: Carefully remove the cake from the tin and place it on a plate.

Optional: Chocolate Glaze

  • Apply the Glaze: Pour the melted chocolate over the top of the cake. Use a knife to spread it evenly.
